Country Description

Agriculture is the most important sector, with livestock normally accounting for about 40% of GDP and more than 50% of export earnings. Other principal exports include fish, charcoal and bananas. South central Somalia's deposits of the clay mineral sepiolite, or meerschaum, in south-central are among the largest known reserves in the world.
