Agriculture is an important component of the Egyptian economy; main crops are cereals, cotton, sugar cane and beetroots. Automotive manufacturing, steel manufacturing, cotton cultivation, textile production and the construction industry account for 35.1% of the GDP. Other important sectors include petroleum and gas extraction, mining, manufacturing and tourism.
