Country Description

The main sub-sectors of Benin are food processing, construction materials, cement, and textiles. The country has fertile land, and according to the World Bank collection of development indicators, 33.26% of Benin’s territory is suitable for agriculture. The few stretches of tropical forest that remain in Benin, mostly in the southwest and central areas, contain mahogany, iroko, teak, samba, and other tropical hardwoods. The rivers and lagoons are rich in fish.
